Pivoting to Authenticity in Your Brands Social Media Marketing

From the moment there were celebrities, there were people wanting to be like them. Now it is no wonder that influencers are a huge part of our daily lives and even marketing strategies. There is something to be said about getting a glimpse inside the lives of people of a higher “perceived” status—emphasizing perceived because we are all just humans, and no one is actually better than anyone else because of what they do.

Whether it is about the hope that at some point we can reach that level of stardom, wanting to stay up on all of the Hollywood social trends, or simply feeling like you’re able to relate to influencers. Seeing celebrities living their day-to-day lives has always been an interest to the public, and something to market.

But your business is not a celebrity is it? How does this apply to you? It absolutely deserves the limelight and I am sure it has some loyal fans that you have built up over the time you have been operating. But it is not quite at the level of booking red-carpet events after blowing up on social media, is it? But there is still a lot to learn from those people and brands who are all over our social media pages, and our focus is going to be on the behind the scenes that happen before they even step foot on that red carpet.

  1. Be yourself:

Avoid trying to be someone you are not or presenting a persona that is not true to yourself. People can usually tell when someone is being fake or insincere. Creating a base of followers of your business starts with you and how much they connect with your personalilty. People do not want to work with someone they can not trust and if their first inclination is that you are not being true to yourself, that is already out the window.

  2. Share your unique perspective:

This is regarding the new developments you see in your industry, your products, and your services. Showcase what makes you different and share your unique experiences and insights. What makes you different from other people in your field?

  3. Be vulnerable:

Share your struggles and failures as well as your successes. Not every business owner has gotten it 100% right all of the time. It is okay to talk about those moments. As much as it is okay to talk and be proud of the moments you have succeeded. Being open and honest can help others connect with you and feel like they can relate to you.

  4. Keep it real:

Avoid heavily editing or filtering your photos or videos. You can make your content interesting while you showcase what your products and services truly do and how they work. People appreciate seeing the real you, not a highly curated version of yourself and your products.

  5. Stay consistent:

Stick to your values and message, be consistent with your content, and communicate with your audience. Having 10,000 loyal customers who engage and care about your content and business is always going to be better than 100,000 followers who couldn’t pick your logo out of a lineup.
